If you have young children and are thinking which animal to choose to be a great ‘first family pet’, we here at Holiday Help 4 Petz would recommend guinea pigs.
We have owned guinea pigs for many years and they are incredibly sweet and easy to care for and look after. Also, nearly without exception, they are easy to handle and importantly, we have never had one ever bite or even scratch!
Many families when choosing a ‘first family pet’ will often choose rabbits. We have found that rabbits can be much more difficult pets to handle, they can often scratch, whilst scrambling to get away from the person trying to catch them. Many, through our own experiences in our pet sitting work, can growl and even bite! All this can prove very scary for young children wanting a small animal to fuss and gain confidence with.
This does not apply to all rabbits, however. Some are very soft, cuddly and truly affectionate, it is quite often the luck of the draw when you choose them. One other factor, as with most animals, is how often you can handle them when young, the more they are handled the more they accept this. However, if you opt for a guinea pig you will nearly always be guaranteed a loving ‘first family pet’.
